You don't have to travel, to be a travel writer.
64Really, how?
Although on the face of it, this statement may at first seem a little obscure, the truth is travel writing and location information has come along way from it's traditional representation. Vacation reviews were once brought to us from the 'all expenses paid' holiday elite and their unrealistic privileges and budget, of which the ordinary traveller would never have access to or experience of.
Readers no longer want to hear about their interpretation of the best or most audacious hotels or in fact the most popular and almost certainly over crowded resorts. We don't want the destinations phony, artificial representative, we want to know about it's true heritage culture and it's real local people.
Due to avenues such as the Internet and other writing platforms you really don't have to travel to be a travel writer. There are many way's to show case your work, on writing sites like hubpages on the on the Internet. As well as through the medium of books and magazines.
Chances are you have not always lived in the place you do now. There may be a number of areas you can use your experience of to write about.
One of the things writers always recommend, me included is to write about what you know and Where do you know more about, then where you live now or have lived previously?
Who would you rather hear it from?
Like many people, when I want to take a holiday or visit an area new to me, I find it preferable to hear it from someone in the know. Local people will have knowledge to all the places worth seeing, the unmissable events and the areas secret gems, that you wouldn't normally hear about from the traditional avenues, usually designed for tourists.
Holiday companies and tourist information are essentially sales representatives, they are trying to sell you a targeted niche of an area or specific premeditated experience's. Certain organisations also fund the promotion of their business, using methods such as this. Meaning less profitable or smaller scale businesses miss out on any of the potential economic opportunities.
A personal unbiased view has become the more sort after and preferred opinion for those travelling today.
Thanks to the invention and use of the Internet, we are a global community and are able to access information from all over the world. As well as accessing information we also have the ability to share are own.
The super information highway is an ideal place to start showing the world what you have to offer as a writer and what your local area has to offer as a potential holiday or day trip destination. When you become more confident in your writing ability online or even if you want to try getting published in print first, using where you live as a subject for your travel writing work can help enormously towards writing a great travel article.
Travel is easier to achieve then ever before, to more people then ever before and there will always be a market for travel articles. If it's something you have ever wanted to try, now is as good a time as ever and you have all the information you need, right on your very doorstep.
